3 New Instagram Features You Need to Know About

There’s been some major changes with the new Instagram features coming to the platform.

Instagram has added lots of new features to their messaging, video editing, insights and privacy settings, changing the way users will interaction with the app. To learn more about these Instagram updates, keep reading.

Messaging: NEW Instagram Features

New Instagram Feature: Edit Messages

Instagram has put a lot of work into making messaging more convenient for everyone. One of the ways they’ve done this is by allowing people to edit their messages after being sent (within 15 minutes), meaning you no longer have to worry about awkward typos.

You can also:

  • Pin your most important chats to the top of your message inbox (which is great if you have regular clients or friends/family you talk to on the platform!)
  • Customise the look of each chat, to make it more personalised to your relationship.
  • Save your favourite stickers, so that you can quickly respond to content.
  • Turn read receipts for conversations on or off.

To learn more about these changes, check out Instagram’s blog.

New Reels Insights

New Instagram Features: New Insights

Reels now provide you with more insights than ever, allowing you to develop your content further, based on what your audience likes and dislikes.

You can now view the amount of replays a video has had, along with the initial amount of plays and the average drop-off times. By utilising this information correctly, you can see what the ideal run time for a video should be, as well as which have lasting value.

Make sure to check this insight often to develop and create better reels going forward!

New Instagram Features For Privacy

To help create a safer online space, Instagram has also made parental controls and settings for users under 18 more strict.

Going forward:

  • Teens will now need approval via the parental supervision tool to be able to change any of their privacy settings.
  • By default, they will not be able to receive messages from accounts they’re aren’t connected to or have in their contacts.
  • They will also be introducing new Instagram features in the future to limit unwanted/ explicit messages from accounts they are already connected with.

These changes aim to combat the rise in spam and inappropriate messages currently on the platform aimed at younger audiences. This is something that’ll be further reinforced with new Instagram features in the future, as they develop privacy settings further.
