Airchat is the new social media platform everyone is talking about.
To really learn about the potential of it and how it works, I signed up for Airchat to explore its channels and develop a profile online.
If you’re unsure what Airchat is, check out our previous blog to learn more.
Registering on AirChat
As you sign up for Airchat, it’ll ask you to input your full name and phone number. You’ll either be put onto a waitlist or asked to request an invite from a number of someone already registered on the platform, as identified from your contact list.
I was added to the waitlist when I signed up and gained access to the platform within a couple of days.
Once I gained access, I then explored the platform, channels and posting.
Navigating the Channels

AirChat’s channels serve as hubs of discussion, each catering to a specific topic or interest. I’d say they’re most similar to Reddit threads.
When you search for a topic, everything is sorted into Latest, Top or Channel posts. They’re very focused around common interests and everyday topics (less so business and marketing-catered).
Channels are currently quite broad, with little navigation once inside. I personally explored the Film channel and found it to be very conversational but a little chaotic, as all conversations go into one feed so several replies for different topics can be seen in the same place.
As you can see in the screenshot below, when viewing a post, you can see the profile of everyone who has replied to the post. Once you click on these, you can either listen to the audio or read the reply. The colourful paint splashes you can see around the top profile picture indicates which thread/post you’re listening to.
In the bottom right corner of the screen, you can see the option to pause/play the whole feed and adjust the speed of everyone’s chat. This makes it a lot easier to catch up on news while you can work on something else.

Posting on Airchat
To post on the feed, you simply hold down the record button you’ll see in the centre bottom of the screen and talk your response or post. Once recorded, you can then edit or add an image to your post.
Everything you post will appear on your profile, similar to tweets/ posts on X (originally Twitter).
Developing a Profile

Profiles are quite basic on Airchat and remind me of X (Twitter). There is a space for a bio, website, username and display name, as well as a profile picture.
On your profile, you will see all of your posts, anything you’ve bookmarked (saved) from another user and a highlighted post section. Highlights here are essentially pinned posts from your own profile which you’d like to draw attention to.
Predictions on Airchat
I did quite enjoy my time on Airchat, due to the personal feeling the app has. It’s much nicer to listen to posts on a topic you care about, rather than mindlessly scroll through a feed that is varied. I think this is especially prevalent now, with Facebook and Instagram’s algorithm showing so many suggested posts on your feed, opposed to accounts you follow.
For Airchat to really develop, they’ll need to do a heavier push on advertising and make it easier for people to access the platform, removing the invite-only feature.
I also think that the platform needs to be a little more organised, such as introducing sub-channels to make the conversations a little clearer. For example, the film channel could have “New Releases”, “Horror Films”, “Awards Season”, etc.
Aside from these points, I can see a lot of people enjoying Airchat- especially Reddit and forum users.
